The Finale (Sort of) (12-Aug-13)

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Paris marked the last joint-destination on our around-the-world-trip.

Totals:
*102 days
*25 countries and 50 cities
*60+ local beers and numerous bottles of wine
*4 pairs of flip flops (mind you, Roger’s lasted the entire trip though they will most likely become “lost” when he’s not watching)
*1 Hawaiian shirt worn only once. You can’t take Hawaii out of the boy, but the shirt seemed a bit out of place in a few Eastern European countries
*1 beard which now officially has its own zip code

Indispensables:
Google maps offline (absolutely crucial without steady wifi)
Evernote (to track hotels, trains, planes, details, you name it)
Mini power strip
Cork screw
Travel humidor (why not?)

What next?
Katie heads back to San Francisco (after stops in Iowa and Los Angeles) to launch her new must-have-travel-clothing article online at www.secretsweater.com on September 1, which she successfully wear-tested during the entire trip. Roger will motorcycle to and from Alaska during the next three weeks, where the beard may come in handy to both keep him warm and ward off bears.

For those interested in following Roger’s journey (starting 15-Aug), stay subscribed as timing is too tight for him to start another blog. Otherwise, thank you for reading along! What a wonderful adventure it has been. Cheers and bon voyage!

Well done guys! I’m in Montana. I may still be here when Roger and beard head south. Give me a shout if so.

    Roger and Katie,
It has been a terrific virtual experience traveling the world with the two of you through your blog. I will miss the updates, but do look forward to seeing some pictures and story’s from Roger’s adventure up North. It was fascinating reading your stats on countries and cities visited. Quite the trip. Be sure to send along the zip code for Roger’s beard…it does appear to have taken on a life of its own!

I’m so sad that it is coming to an end, but I look forward to seeing you again, Katie. Thanks for the posts — almost as much fun as being there.

Quite a performance: one country every 4 days and one city every 2 days. At that pace you’d only need 784 days to visit every country in the world. It’s a pity you didn’t make it to Belgium (it’s only a few hours from Paris), but at least you had a taste of our beers. We should have warned you that they’re not to be taken lightly. Katie, lots of success with your sweater launch and Roger, don’t scare the bears too much!
