Day 1: Motorcycling to the Alaskan Arctic (McCloud, California 2013-08-15

After landing from our previous trip and 2 days of hectic preparations, all went according to plan this morning. I left San Francisco for what will likely be a 9,000+ mile journey to the top of Alaska and back. With the bike weighing 560lb with a full tank of gas and 100lbs+ of camping and other gear added on top, to say the least, it is squirrelly at low speeds. I am camping tonight in the lovely McCloud, California just south of the Oregon border. It was a hot ride and reached 102F. Let the adventure begin.20130815-190420.jpg

I’ll be following along and when you leave Fairbanks for the Dalton highway and the top of the world meet me at the Arctic Circle Trading post and I’ll buy the coffee, I live nearby in a cabin in the woods. I have followed quite a few bloggers to Alaska this summer…….have a safe trip.

I am not sure if you should keep the beard, to blend in with the bears, or shave the beard, because a mama bear will confuse you with a papa bear and get either angry or…excited
